First Step To Living The Most Joyous Life

“We’re on a planet that somehow knows how to rotate on its axis and follow a defined path while it hurtles through space! Our hearts beat! We can see! We have love, laughter, language, living rooms, computers, compassion, care, fire, fingernails, flowers, music, medicine, mountains, muffins! We live in a limitless Universe overflowing with miracles! The fact that we aren’t stumbling around in an inconsolable state of sobbing is appalling. The Universe must be like, what more do I have to do to wake these bitches up? Make water, their most precious resource, rain down from the sky?” -You are a Badass by Jen Sincero (highly recommend this book!)

Did that quote make you laugh? At least make you smile? Yeah, that’s what I thought, homie. That’s because it’s so simple and so obvious yet so unbelievably true. We often forget how magical the Universe is, so we live every day as if it is a God-given right to have organs that help us breathe, digest, poop, smile, etc. And have you ever thought about how freaking cool the ocean is? Trees? Stars? Animals that can camouflage themselves perfectly? LIKE OH EM GEE! We are so freakin’ lucky to even live in this Universe, so I think it’s about time we start acting like it.

We always use the same excuses to put off living a life of pure joy (“I’m too busy right now with school”, “Ugh I hate my job and just have to get through it day by day”, “I’ll have fun when I retire”), but those excuses are SOOO yesterday. Today and going forward, we are going to start living the most ridiculously excellent lives, and I’m about to tell you how.

The first step to living the most beautifully joyous life is: DO THINGS THAT INSPIRE YOU. EVERY SINGLE DAY.

You know that feeling when you’re super inspired and just want to get started on whatever you’re inspired to do? That incredible, motivated feeling where nothing can stop you and every cell in your body is ridiculously stoked to live? Yeah. Get that feeling everyday by making time to do the things that inspire you. Here are some ideas that may help:

1. Put down the TV remote and grab a book instead. My favorite genre is

self-help because they always leave me buzzing with new ideas. Some

of my faves are:

-You are a Badass by Jen Sincero (comic relief paired with insane wisdom)

-The Way of the Peaceful Warrior by Dan Milman (self help book disguised as a semi-fictional novel...umm yes please!)

-The Alchemist by Paolo Coelho (go buy this before you even take your next breath)

-The Secret by Rhonda Byrne (teaches you how to get rich, how to get happy, and how to live your best life)

-Everything Mind by Chris Grosso (hilariously, riveting-ly eye-opening)

-Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert (Italian pizza paired with strict Indian mediation and sweet Indonesian medicine men, anyone?).

-The Surrender Experiment by Michael A. Singer (how to let go and consequentially live the most incredibly wonderful life you could ever dream of)

2. Stop with the YouTube video binges and instead go for a walk as you listen to a

podcast. Here are some of my favorite podcast stations on the FREE iPhone

podcast app:

-"From The Heart" with Rachel Brathin (yoga, meditation, mindfulness, etc.)

-"Travelogue" (for any wanderlusting gypsies out there)

-"Earth To Us" (environmental friendliness paired with healthy eating)

-"Magic Lesson" with Elizabeth Gilbert (for any creators that are in a creative

rut)

3. Put the potato chips back in the pantry and MOVE YOUR BODY. Moving gets your heart pumping, your blood flowing, your endorphins jumping, and your creative juices dancing. My current movement obsessions are:

-Dancing (do it in the kitchen while you make dinner or in your room when

you’re getting dressed in the morning)

-Yoga (helps decrease anxiety, increases mindfulness, and makes you feel like

a cool yogi…so why not?)

-Walking (yeah…choose any podcast and go for it…morning, evening, midday,

whatever...just do it)

-Hiking (nature is good for us; go hug some trees and smell some roses, dude)

4. Talk to friends that inspire you. Know of any people that you think are smarter

than you, more motivated than you, more efficient than you, and/or have their

sh*t more together than you do? Yeah. Go talk to them, and see if your cells get

that motivated, inspired, buzzing feeling.

Well, those are the ideas I have for now, folks! I hope that this post has motivated you in some way to go get inspired. As cliche as it always sounds, life is indeed short, and we have to make all of our todays count. Let’s challenge ourselves to live the most epic today that we can, every single today. 1….2….3….BREAK!

Quote of the Day:

"To live will be an awfully big adventure” -Peter Pan
