"Back To Reality"

Far too many times, we use the term "back to reality" to mean that we are returning to something unpleasant, something boring, something stressful, and/or something merely unwanted. Why is this? Reality is what we LIVE! Reality is this beautiful palette, an artwork we are so lucky to paint while our hearts are still beating and our lungs are still filling. Reality is the way in which we fill our flickering, ephemeral time on this planet. So why fill our reality with unpleasant, boring, stressful, and/or unwanted things?
We frequently use "back to reality" to signify that we are returning to school or to work, perhaps from a vacation or perhaps merely from a weekend. Well, guess what. No matter what you are doing, whether it is working a 9 to 5 in a cubicle or working as a surfing instructor in Malibu, it is YOUR life. That means 2 things: 1) you get to CHOOSE what you do in YOUR life and 2) you might as well enjoy whatever the heck you're doing because, again, it is YOUR LIFE.

Even if you are stuck in law school for a few more years or you hate your job, try to enjoy it anyway. Try to smile as often as you can and be fully present in each and every moment, never wishing for the future or dreaming of the past. The best way to do this is to simply be grateful. Be grateful for all that you are learning. Be grateful for the money that you are earning. Be grateful for everything that life is serving...Yes, I did just try to rhyme those lines (if you did not notice, that may be a bit concerning).
Anyways, I know that some of you may be rolling your eyes right now and mentally drowning in my over-used cliches, but I thought I would just plant this little thought in your mind. I, personally, am going back to school this week and even though neuroscience midterms aren't exactly my idea of fun, I sure am grateful for the gift of education, I sure am grateful for the friends that I make in my classes, I sure am grateful for the student organizations that I get to participate in, and I sure am grateful for all of the self-discovery I have gotten to do in college. So, be grateful, stay present, and enjoy each and every moment of reality. After all, it is your life you're living.
